BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Pace University women's basketball team dropped its first contest of the season on Friday night courtesy of 56-44 setback at the University of Bridgeport. The loss moves the Setters' record to 5-1 this year.
It was a season-low shooting performance for the Blue and Gold in their first defeat of 2021-22. Pace made just 14-of-62 shots (22.6%) from the field, including 3-for-25 (12%) from three-point range.
Bridgeport battled back from a 14-1 deficit, mainly due to an 18-7 scoring margin in the second quarter. The Purple Knights went on to outscore Pace, 19-10, in the third quarter.
While the Setters cut the Bridgeport lead to just 44-43 with 4:35 remaining in the contest, the Purple Knights closed the game on a 12-1 run.
Individually, graduate forward
Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) led Pace with 21 points. She also matched a career-high with 16 rebounds.
Another graduate student,
Jasmine White (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), ranked second on the Setter with seven boards, in addition to recording five points and two blocks. Senior
Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the Setters in both steals (3) and assists (6).
