PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Led by a commanding first-half performance, the Pace University men's basketball team rattled off a 75-61 win over The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday night. The Setters' fifth-straight double-digit victory improves their record to 7-0 this season (3-0, NE10).
Junior
Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) led the way with a career night for the home squad. The Orange County native racked up a game-high 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including a 3-for-3 effort from three-point range. Powell also chipped in six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
The Setters outscored Saint Rose, 39-21, in the opening 20 minutes, while leading by at least 14 points throughout the entire second half. Pace entered the halftime break on a 14-2 run.
Graduate guard
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) joined Powell with a stellar night of his own. The Queens, N.Y. native dished out 13 assists, in addition to recording seven rebounds, four points and three steals.
Jacobs, already the Setters' all-time assists leader, has now registered 12 career games with at least 10 dimes. He currently owns 544 assists in 95 career contests.
Junior
Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) and senior
Marc Dadika (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saint Mary's Rutherford) rounded out Pace's top offensive performers. Powell put in 15 points, to go along with four assists, two blocks, and two steals. Dadika chipped in 13 points of his own with five rebounds.
Collectively, the Blue and Gold finished the game with 10 steals and six blocks. Saint Rose's 21 points in the first half served as a new season-low for the road team.
