DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Winners of five in a row, the Pace University men's basketball team posted an 87-57 win at Mercy College on Sunday afternoon. The fourth-straight double-digit victory moves the Setters' record to 6-0 this season.
It was a season-best shooting performance that sparked the Blue and Gold on Sunday. The Setters shot nearly 60 percent from the field (31-of-52), including a 7-for-12 effort from three-point range in the first half.
Pace's sharp offense led to a 24-point lead at halftime. The Setters went on to hold an edge of at least 23 points throughout the second half.
Graduate guard
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) flirted with a new career-best with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He also chipped in seven assists and a pair of steals.
Following Jacobs, it was a balanced attack. Six different Setters finished with at least eight points, including 12 each from
Dominick Cristiano (Valhalla, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic/Greens Farm Academy) and
Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School).
Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) served as Pace's top rebounder with eight boards while
Christian Adams (New Haven, Conn./Hamden Hall) recorded team-highs in both steals (3) and blocks (2).
Pace's offense was assisted by a 17-of-21 effort from the free-throw line, along with a 37-28 edge in rebounds. The Setters currently lead the NE10 in rebounding margin this season at +12.6 per game.
