PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Making their home and NE10 debut, the Pace University women's basketball team tallied a 70-63 win over American International College on Saturday afternoon. The victory improves the Setters' record to 2-0 to begin the 2021-22 season.
Using the energy of their first home crowd in over 20 months, it was a strong first half that fueled Pace against the Yellow Jackets. The Setters posted a 19-9 opening quarter before extending their lead to as high as 16 points in the second frame.
Holding a 12-point lead at halftime, Pace was able to keep AIC at an arm's length across the final 20 minutes. The Yellow Jackets never cut the advantage to less than five points.
In similar fashion to Pace's season-opener last weekend, it was
Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) leading the way on Saturday. The graduate student put in a team-best 18 points, in addition to earning nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
Following Schetter, it was a balanced offense. Four Setters finished with at least eight points, including
Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who recorded a stat line of nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Senior
Kelsey Quain (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and freshman
Arianna Stockinger (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. /Putnam Valley) also put in nine points, combining to knock in four three-pointers.
Pace's three-point defense was once again elite. AIC made just six-of-23 (26.1%) from beyond the arc, including a 1-for-11 effort in the second half.
Up Next
The Setters will travel to Connecticut on Tuesday night for an NE10 clash with the New Haven Chargers (3-1, 0-1 NE10).
