RINDGE, N.H. – Surging into the postseason, the Pace University field hockey team (13-5, 10-4 NE10) wrapped up the 2021 regular season on Saturday with their sixth consecutive win, a come-from-behind 3-1 triumph at Franklin Pierce.
The victory propels Pace into an NE10 Championships quarterfinals clash with Saint Anselm College (14-4, 11-3 NE10) on Monday at 4 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
After a scoreless opening stanza, the Ravens struck first in the 22
nd-minute off a Meghan Winn forehand.
The Setters' response was swift, tying the game two-and-a-half minutes later off a
Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) reverse stick shot, assisted by senior
Danielle Merante (Garrison, N.Y./Walter Panas).
The goal gave Dietz Pace's single-season goals record, but she was not yet finished making history.
The freshman gave the Setters the lead in the third quarter after causing a turnover deep in Ravens' territory and slapping in another reverse stick shot for her second goal of the game. Dietz' 19 goals scored this season ranks first in the Northeast-10 Conference, the first time a Setter has accomplished the feat.
Pace earned an insurance goal in the waning minutes of the game off another Ravens turnover. Junior
Cienna Bosher's (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) 58
th-minute forehand shot hit the back of the net to seal the Pace win.
Bosher's 10
th goal gives the Setters a pair of double-digit scorers on the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Grace Henderson (Kingswood, South Australia/Unley) earned the win with six saves. Her 13 wins were the second most in the NE10 this season.
The fifth-seeded Setters now travel to face the fourth-seeded Hawks on Monday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NE10 tournament. Saint Anselm defeated Pace at home 1-0 in overtime back on Sept. 11, and are the reigning and defending conference champions.
