MANCHESTER, N.H. – Beginning their 2021 postseason, the Pace University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday in New Hampshire.
Women's Results (13th Place, 6K)
Junior
Marina Lopez (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) put together one of the best races of her career with a 6K time of 27:22 to finish in 94th place. Senior
Heaven Swan (Wingdale, N.Y./Dover) followed her teammate with a mark of 28:04 to place 105
th overall.
The Setters' next two runners finished within 20 seconds of each other. Senior
Lisa Clarke (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) clocked in at 28:28 (113
th place), while classmate
Crystal Raines (Roosevelt, N.J./Hightstown) came in at 28:48 (116
th place).
Freshman
Meryl Mizell (Round Rock, Texas/Stony Point) rounded out the Blue and Gold's scoring with a 123
rd place finish in a time of 30:26.
Ashley De La Cruz (Yonkers, N.Y./Maria Regina) and
Danielle Ashley Cornetta (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) also crossed the finish line for Pace with respective marks of 30:49 and 32:05.
Men's Results (14th Place, 8K)
Freshman
Daniel Pacheco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) was superb in his first-ever championship race for the Setters. The Rookie piloted Pace's attack with an 8K time of 30:43 to finish in 113
th.
Another rookie for Pace, sophomore
CJ Defeo (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue Medford), performed well in his NE10's debut. The Long Island native recorded a time of 32:59 to place 138
th.
Senior
Killian McCole (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) and junior
Sean Lowery (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) posted back-to-back finishes as the Setters' next two scorers. McCole tallied a mark of 33:59 (147
th-place) while Lowery earned a time of 34:16.
The Blue and Gold's final three runners all placed consecutively at 147-149. Juniors
Ceasar Lugo (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and
Nicholas Becker (Lynbrook, N.Y./East Rockaway) clocked identical times of 39:29, while senior
Ryan Murphy (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) came in at 42:26.
