Pace Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Thriller to Bridgeport

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.  – Going to five sets for the third time this season, the Pace University volleyball team dropped a dramatic 3-2 contest (20-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 15-17) to the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday night.

The Setters showed terrific resolve against the Purple Knights despite not pulling out the win. Down two sets to one, Pace forced a fifth set with a 25-18 triumph in the fourth. The Blue and Gold then climbed back from a 13-7 deficit in the final game before ultimately falling to Bridgeport, 17-15.

Junior Brielle Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) was sensational for Pace. The Florida native racked up a career-high 28 kills, while also hitting a team-high .281. She also chipped in seven digs and a pair of service aces.

Freshman Georgette Cosentino (Scarsdale, N.Y./The Ursuline School) joined in with a season-high performance of her own. The Scarsdale, N.Y. native dished out 23 assists, in addition to tallying seven digs and three aces.

Sophomore Stephanie Sicilian (White Plains, N.Y./Valhalla) also passed the ball well, finishing the match with 18 assists. Another sophomore, Jada Screen (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett), finished second behind Jones in kills with a season-high nine.

On the defensive side of the ball, it was the trio of Emily Cockell (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo), Morgan Amos (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and Daniella Abbastante (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) leading the way. Cockell and Amos combined for 36 digs, while Abbastante recorded a team-high four blocks.
