A Statement from Pace Director of Athletics, Mark Brown

To the Pace Athletics Family:

I often share messages praising our student-athletes, and the uniqueness of our Setter family. However, right now like so many, our family feels sadness, pain, anger, and frustration not only over the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, but over all instances of unjust treatment of Black people. These are heartbreaking reminders that social injustice sadly carries on, and we condemn any actions that are racist or discriminatory.

We all must see that race continues to determine how people are treated in nearly every aspect of life. As coaches, administrators, and educators, we have a deep responsibility to be leaders, to work towards change, and fight for equality and justice. We as a society have not done nearly enough and Pace Athletics is committed to taking actions that make our communities better, for everyone.

The Pace Athletics family is devoted to inclusivity and diversity, and stands against prejudice, hatred, and ignorance. We must unite against intolerance, to fight for positive change, respect, and dignity for all. I am committed to that change, and I strongly encourage every one of us to think, listen, and learn from each other, while fighting for that change peacefully.

Our strength is in every member of our community, and within our diverse experiences and thinking. I know we have what it will take to push forward, have the much-needed conversations, and take positive actions to ensure a supportive and inclusive culture. This is what we need to do to be leaders as we move forward. This is what it means to be a member of the Setter family.
