Pace Softball Sweeps Again to Move to 6-0

ETTRICK, Va. – Wrapping up a six-game weekend in Virginia, the Pace University softball team posted victories over Chowan University and Virginia State on Sunday afternoon. The third straight sweep for the Setters pushes their record to 6-0, which is their best start to a season since 2012.

Game One – Pace 3, Virginia State 2

Briana Ryan (Wilmington, Calif./Carson) served as the hero for Pace in the opener. With the Setters trailing 2-1 in the fifth, the junior doubled home Emma Carruth (Torrance, Calif./Beverly Hills) and Arielle Acosta (Union City, Calif./Moreau Catholic High School) to produce a 3-2 lead.

Kate Dolinski (Fort Langley, British Columbia/Yale Secondary) took over from there. Coming out of the bullpen, the sophomore pitcher struck out the side in both the sixth and seventh innings to pick up her second career save.

Sophomore Madison Nicholson (Reno, Nev./North Valleys High School) earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs across five innings of work.

Game Two – Pace 6, Chowan 5

Pace's second one-run victory came courtesy of a go-ahead, RBI single off the bat of Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) in the top of the seventh inning.

Iverson added a triple in the third inning as well to give Pace a 4-2 edge. Freshman Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) also tripled in the contest—her fourth three-bagger in just six games this season.

Pederson finished with a team-high three RBIs, while Ryan went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Maxibel Garcia (Passaic, N.J./Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology) earned her second win in as many days, allowing just one unearned run in 2.2 innings.
