Pace Softball Earns Wins Against Bluefield State and Shippensburg

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. – On Day Two of a six-game weekend down in Virginia, the Pace University softball team earned victories over Bluefield State (20-3) and Shippensburg (3-2) on Saturday. The wins move the Setters' record to 4-0 on the season.

Game One – Pace 20, Bluefield State 3
The Setters opened the day with one of their best offensive performances in recent memory. Pace's 20 runs in just five innings marked the program's highest total in a game since 2009.

Pace's outburst was highlighted by nine runs in the third inning alone. Six different Setters tallied multiple hits in the game, including 3-for-4 efforts from Emma Carruth (Torrance, Calif./Beverly Hills), Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter), and Raechelle Seil (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap High School).

Pederson also recorded a team-high five RBIs, while sophomore Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) knocked in four runs of her own. Carruth and sophomore NancyAnn Revilla (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond) each scored a team-best four runs.

Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) earned the win in the circle against Bluefield State. The junior struck out eight, while allowing just two earned runs across five innings.

Game Two – Pace 3, Shippensburg 2
Pace's second win of the day came in a much different fashion. The Setters enjoyed a gem off the hand of sophomore Maxibel Garcia (Passaic, N.J./Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology), who yielded just two runs and five hits in a complete-game effort.

Junior Briana Ryan (Wilmington, Calif./Carson) supplied all of Pace's offense against Shippensburg, including a go-ahead, two-run single in the fifth inning. She also knocked in an RBI single in the bottom of the first.

Revilla and Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) joined Ryan with two hits in the second game, while sophomore Arielle Acosta (Union City, Calif./Moreau Catholic High School) scored a pair of runs.

Up Next
The Setters will wrap up their weekend in Virginia with two more games on Sunday. Pace takes on Virginia State at 10 a.m. before facing Chowan University at noon.
