Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 7 Men's Lacrosse Falls at Eighth-Ranked Mercy, 9-6

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – In a battle between two of the top-ranked teams in the country, the seventh-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse squad was defeated at No. 8 Mercy College on Saturday by a final score of 9-6. The loss shifts the Setters' record to 1-1 on the early season.

In a tight game throughout, it was a 4-1 spurt in the third quarter that helped the Mavericks to victory. With the score tied at 5-5, Mercy scored three consecutive goals within a four-minute span to take an 8-5 edge with 41 seconds left in the third.

The Setters would go on to cut the lead to just 8-6 with 3:35 remaining in regulation, but that would be as close as they would get.

Sophomore goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) was instrumental in keeping Pace in the game as he registered a new career-best with 18 saves in net. He posted nine stops in both halves.

On the offensive side of the ball, five different Setters found the back of the net. Freshman Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) served as Pace's lone multi-goal scorer with a pair of tallies.

Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), Spencer DeRosa (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman), Joseph Diggle (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), and Jalen Paul (Canton, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) also put their names in the scoring column.

Diggle chipped in a team-high three caused turnovers as well, while Patrick Mulcahy (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led Pace with four ground balls.
