PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday and National Read Across America Day, the Pace University Department of Athletics continued their tradition of student-athletes and staff members visiting the Bedford Road School in Pleasantville, N.Y. on Monday.
Arriving at around 9:30 a.m., Setter student-athletes joined numerous classes to read books and talk about what it is like to be a student-athlete at Pace. The Bedford Road School students welcomed the opportunity to have the student-athletes join them on Monday morning. The students were able to take a break from class time to sit down with the athletes and listen to them read, while also getting a chance to pick their brains about being a student-athlete and a college student.
"It was an awesome experience getting to read to the kids of Bedford Road School," said senior
Blake Balcaen (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) of the Pace University men's lacrosse team. "It made me remember the good times and how much I miss being in Elementary School."
Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss's birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! Incorporate these guides and activities to celebrate reading with young people.
