Men's Basketball Defeats SNHU in NE10 First Round, 90-75

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - For the second straight season, the Pace University men's basketball team is moving on to the Quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The Setters' latest triumph came over fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Friday night, 90-75.

Pace (19-10) will now travel to take on top-seeded Saint Anselm on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Blue and Gold's offense was fueled by Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) and Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School), who each posted career-high scoring performances in a packed Goldstein Fitness Center.

Cohen was especially locked in during the second half of play, dropping in 23 or his 27 total points after halftime. The senior shot nine-of-14 from the field, while sinking four three-pointers.

He also chipped in three blocks and a steal on the defensive end of the floor. Cohen's night featured six straight points in a key Blue and Gold 10-0 run during the second half.

Teammate Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) shot 100 percent from beyond the arc on three attempts en route to a 24-point night. The freshman also shot 70 percent from the field, and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.

The NE10's scoring leader, Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional), added 17 points and eight rebounds of his own in the win while the conference leader in assists, Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran), posted 12 points, seven assists and two steals.

The Setters' second half featured some of their best offense of the season. Pace racked up 55 points across the final 20 minutes, shooting 57.69% from the field in the process.
