Pace Men's Basketball Falls at Top-Seeded Saint Anselm in NE10 Quarterfinals, 82-77

MANCHESTER, N.H. – In the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, the Pace University men's basketball team was defeated at top-seeded Saint Anselm on Sunday by a score of 82-77. The Setters close out the season with a record of 19-11, marking the program's highest win total since 2006-07.

Inside the Numbers
Senior Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) capped off his sensational career with another huge output. The NE10's leading scorer posted his 13th double-double of the season thanks to 29 points and 11 rebounds.

Wejnert bookends his career ranked sixth in program history in both points and career rebounds. He is one of just three players in Pace history to rack up more than 1,700 points and 700 rebounds during his career.

Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) and Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) also reached double figures in the game, combining for 29 points. Jacobs, who led the NE10 in assists for almost the entire season, put forth six more helpers against Saint Anselm. He finishes his junior season, averaging 7.8 assists per game (third in the nation).

The Blue and Gold shot 48.3% from the field on Sunday, including an 8-for-22 clip from beyond the arc.

How it Happened
Going on the road against the top-seeded Hawks, Pace hung tough. The Setters battled back from an early 17-5 deficit to go up by as many as 11 points in the first half, before taking a 47-39 lead into the locker room.

Saint Anselm opened the second half on a 13-2 run to reclaim a three-point edge with 17:08 remaining. From that point, it was a battle to the final whistle.

The Setters earned their final edge of the afternoon at 71-68 with 4:08 remaining following a pair of Wejnert free throws.

Pace would go on to miss their next five shots from the field, creating an opening for Saint Anselm. Gustav Suhr-Jessen hit one of the game's biggest shots at the 2:06 mark—a three-pointer to provide the Hawks with a 75-71 advantage.

Pace stayed aggressive, however, as a steal and subsequent two free throws from Ray Montilus (Union, N.J./Pope John XXII) cut the lead to 77-75 with 40 seconds left.

Saint Anselm answered on the other side with a Tyler Arbuckle layup to stretch the edge back up to four with less than 30 ticks on the clock.

A turnover from the Setters on their next possession all but wrapped up the contest in favor of the home team.
