GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – In a key Divisional battle within the Northeast-10 Conference, the Pace University men's basketball team picked up an 87-83 overtime win at Adelphi on Wednesday night. The thrilling victory pushes the Setters' overall record to 17-9 this season, including a 9-8 mark in the NE10.
How it Happened
Pace's triumph over the Panthers featured yet another comeback from the Blue and Gold. In what has become routine for the Setters this season, Pace roared back from a 15-point halftime deficit on Wednesday.
A 29-11 stretch to open the second half yielded a three-point lead for Pace at the 9:01 mark. From there, it was a back-and-forth battle to the finish.
A Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) layup cut the Adelphi lead to 68-67 with a little less than a minute remaining. Following a Panthers' bucket on the other end, Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) knocked in a three-pointer with 18 seconds left to tie the game up at 70-70.
Following a defensive stand from Pace in the final seconds of regulation, the Setters found themselves in overtime for a second-straight game.
In extra time, it was Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) who sparked the Blue and Gold. The senior drilled a trio of three-pointers in extra time, with the final one lifting Pace to an 81-77 lead at the 1:38 mark.
The Setters closed out the game with six free throws courtesy of Wejnert and Jacobs, while tallying several key stops on the defensive end.
