Pace Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season-Opener at Roberts Wesleyan, 16-14

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Seeing their first action of the 2020 campaign, the Pace University women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-14 contest at Roberts Wesleyan College on Monday afternoon.

The Setters erased a six-goal, first-half deficit to eventually tie the game at 12-12 with 11:39 remaining in regulation.

Following about five minutes of scoreless action, the Redhawks answered with a three-goal spurt to take a 15-12 edge at the 3:16 mark. Pace would go on to cut the lead to 15-13 but another Redhawk tally with a little over a minute remaining sealed the victory for the home team.

The Setters put 31 shots on goal in the game, with Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper Natalie Arieno coming up with 17 saves. Pace also put together an 18-13 advantage in draw controls.

Individually, junior Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) led the Blue and Gold with five goals and six total points. Sophomore Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) followed with four tallies while classmate Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) found the back of the net twice. Conway added a team-high eight draw controls as well.

Jaimie Bell (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West)e, Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) and Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) also served as goal-scorers in the contest.

Defensively, senior Alexa Punzone (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) racked up a career-high four caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai School District) finished with five stops in a complete-game effort in net.
