PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Pace University women's basketball team outlasted Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday night, squeezing out a 58-53 overtime victory at home. The win improves the Setters to 18-7 overall, with an 11-5 mark in the conference.
Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, N.Y./Commack) propelled the offense with 19 points and also snatched 14 rebounds, tallying her 11th double-double of the season. Tuesday's 19 points also marks the ninth time this season that the senior has scored at least 19 in a single-game.
Pace trailed by three with 1:33 remaining in regulation. Sophomore
Kelsey Quain (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) was granted a pair of trips to the free throw line, shooting three-of-four in those opportunities to send the Setters into overtime.
The Blue and Gold jumped out to a five-point lead in the overtime period, thanks to DelliSanti dropping in a layup and a pair of free throws before
Naya Rivera (Pomona, N.Y./North Rockland) secured the victory with some efficient foul shooting of her own.
While DelliSanti was the lone Setter to reach double-digits on the evening, Quain, Rivera and
Kendra Cooper-Smith (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./The Masters School) each shared the second-leading scorer spot with seven apiece. Rivera also pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds in the win while adding two steals and one block.
Pace's defense held the Owls to 19-of-63 shooting (30.2%) from the field, including a mark of 3-for-24 from long range (12.5%).
Tuesday's triumph marks the second time Pace has defeated the Owls this season and also puts the team at 2-0 this season when reaching overtime.Â
