Cohen Jr.'s Buzzer-Beater Clinches Thrilling Win for Men's Basketball Against Franklin Pierce

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Tyrone Cohen, Jr.'s (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) half-court buzzer beater capped off a thrilling victory for the Pace University men's basketball team over Franklin Pierce on Wednesday night. The 75-72 win moves the Setters' record to 14-7 this season, including a mark of 6-6 in the NE10.

Tied at 72-72, the Setters put together a defensive stop prior to freshman Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) finding Cohen, Jr. on the left wing for a final look that ended up banking in to the hoop as the buzzer sounded.

The dramatic finish was the result of a gritty comeback for the Blue and Gold on Wednesday night. The Setters trailed for almost the entirety of the game, while rallying back from a 15-point second-half deficit. Franklin Pierce led by a score of 53-38 at the 14:06 mark of the second half.

A Setters' 22-7 run ultimately tied the game at 60-60 with about seven minutes on the clock before a back and forth finish to the contest.

Senior Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) led Pace's attack, narrowly missing out on posting his fifth straight double-double. The New Jersey native finished the night with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Wejnert's output came with a milestone as well as he became just the ninth player in program history to eclipse 1,500 career points. He currently leads the NE10 in scoring the season, averaging more than 23 points per contest.

Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) was equally as impressive on Wednesday as he barely missed a triple-double. The junior put together a stat line of 17 points, eight assists and eight rebounds.

Classmate Austin Gilbertson (Etters, Pa./Trinity) served as Pace's final double-figure scorer with 11 points. He also nabbed a team-high three steals.

Cohen Jr. and Powell rounded out the Setters' offense with a combined 17 points, in addition to each grabbing six rebounds.

Collectively, the Blue and Gold had great success on the boards against Franklin Pierce. Pace rattled off a 38-27 advantage on the glass, including a 15-5 edge on the offensive side.
