MANCHESTER, N.H. – Despite clawing back from a 16-point second-half deficit, the Pace University men's basketball team dropped a 74-68 contest at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. The loss shifts the Setters' overall record to 14-8 this season, which includes a 6-7 mark in the NE10.
Trailing 46-30 early on in the second half, Pace rattled off an 18-1 run to take their first lead of the game mid-way through the period.
After SNHU went back up 14 points with about four minutes remaining, Pace made one more move to cut the edge to just three points at the 1:46 mark.
The Penmen once again answered that spurt with a 5-2 stretch to end the contest.
Junior
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) piloted the Pace attack on Saturday. The point guard went off for 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. He also registered five assists in the game.
Senior
Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) put together a solid outing as well, posting his ninth double-double of the season. The New Jersey native compiled 18 points and 11 rebounds, doing most of his offensive damage from the free-throw line (8-for-9).
Wejnert, who leads the NE10 in scoring this season, has now recorded five double-doubles across his last six games.
Austin Gilbertson (Etters, Pa./Trinity) joined his teammates in double figures with 14 points. He was especially lethal from long range, hitting three of his four attempts from beyond the arc.
Ray Montilus (Union, N.J./Pope John XXII), who leads the NE10 in steals per game this season (2.5), tallied three more takeaways against the Penmen.
The Setters achieved a new season high in three-point makes on Saturday, putting in 10 of their 24 shots from long range (41.7%).
