Men's Basketball Edged by Saint Anselm in Final Minutes, 79-74

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Despite putting five players in double figures, the Pace University men's basketball team fell to Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon by a score of 79-74. The loss moves the Setters' overall record to 11-5 this season, with a 3-4 mark inside the NE10.

In a contest that featured five ties and seven different lead changes, it was the Hawks who gained just enough separation in the final minutes.

A 5-0 run from Saint Anselm turned a tie game into a 73-68 edge with 1:50 remaining in regulation. Pace would answer with four straight points of their own to cut the lead to just one with less than a minute left.

Now up just 73-72 with 48 ticks on the clock, Saint Anselm iced the game by going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to close it out.

The Blue and Gold's balanced attack was led by Austin Gilbertson (Etters, Pa./Trinity), who put in a team-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Following Gilbertson was a trio of Setters each tallying 14 points. Junior Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) served as one of those Setters, while also nearing a triple-double.

In addition to his scoring output, Jacobs also piled up eight assists and seven rebounds. He nabbed a pair of steals as well.

Freshman Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) also stuffed the stat sheet en route to notching his fourth double-double of the year. The rookie Setter finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and a season-high five blocks.

Senior Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) was red-hot for the Setters in the opening half as he tallied 11 of Pace's first 24 points of the game.

Senior Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) finished in double figures for the 16th time this season. The NE10's leading scorer registered 14 points, while also blocking two shots.

Pace's eight total blocks in the game tied a season-high, while it was the seventh time this year that Pace recorded at least nine steals in a game.
