WEST CHESTER, Pa. – On Day Two of a season-opening invitational hosted by West Chester University, the Pace University volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 matches to Goldey-Beacom College (25-22, 25-23, 25-18) and the host Rams (25-15, 25-19, 25-14).
In the day's opening match against Goldey-Beacom, sophomore
Sandra Yang (Bothell, Wash./Edmonds-Woodway) led Pace with 10 kills.
Seniors
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, Hawaii/Iolani) and
Samantha Nidini (Houston, Texas/Clearlake) also put forth solid lines against the Lightning. Calimpong-Burke posted five kills, five digs and a pair of blocks while Nidini racked up 11 assists and nine digs.
Defensively, senior
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the Blue and Gold in digs in both matches, combining for 20 pickups.
Mackenzie Byrne (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) was Pace's top blocker, registering three in each contest.
Junior
Christal Wong (Elk Grove, Calif./Cosumnes Oaks) piloted the Pace attack against West Chester with seven kills while Calimpong-Burke chipped in five more putaways.
Sophomore
Katy Motz (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) tallied a team-high 12 assists against the Rams.
Up Next
The Setters travel to Texas next weekend to take part in the Pioneer Invitational. Pace will play matches against Oklahoma Baptist, Colorado Christian, Eastern New Mexico, and Harding University.
