Pace Football Surges Past Franklin Pierce, 52-7

RINDGE, N.H. - Scoring the most points in a game since 1987, the Pace University football team advanced to 2-1 and picked up its first conference win after rolling past Franklin Pierce with a final score of 52-7. The 45-point margin ties a Pace Football record for largest margin of victory in Setter history.

How it Happened
The Setters' first points came in unusual fashion when a Franklin Pierce punt attempt that resulted in a safety gave Pace the 2-0 lead in the first quarter.

Following the safety, the Setters wasted no time on their first offensive possession of the game when senior quarterback Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) connected with sophomore wide receiver Ramir Tann-Davis (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Eastside) for a 36-yard touchdown pass.

Aiken continued carving up the Franklin Pierce secondary with a pair of 53-yard touchdown passes. The first of the long-balls landed in the hands of senior receiver Darius Jones (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) putting the setters up 20-7 following a successful 2-point conversion. Aiken then dropped in another deep shot to Tann-Davis who reached the end zone for his second time on the night.

Running back Jhalen Bien-Aime (Dorchester, Mass./Bridgton Academy) also added two touchdowns on the ground from five and seven yards out.

The Setters posted 437 yards of total offense. Aiken finished with 275 yards through the air while Bien-Aime came up just six yards shy of a 100-yard rushing performance.

Pace had two quarterbacks throw for touchdowns on the night when redshirt-senior Brandon Simmons (Willingboro, N.J./Holy Cross Academy) completed a 4-yard toss to Darnell McCray (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) late in the fourth quarter.

On Defense
Junior defensive back James Day (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) registered his first career interception when he picked off a pass at the Pace 38-yard line in the fourth quarter.

Junior defensive lineman Kevin Gutierrez (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the Setters in tackles (10) while recording a sack and a pass break-up.

Pace capitalized when reaching the redzone, scoring on all four of its trips inside the 20-yard line. The Setters also managed to convert on all five of their 2-point attempts.

Next Up
Coach Rondeau and company will be back in action next Saturday at Pace Stadium when they face off against Saint Anselm College at 12 p.m.
