Pace Football Doubles Up Saint Anselm for Third Straight Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Pace University football team picked up its third straight win this season with a 42-21 triumph over Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon. The 21-point victory marks the Setters' second win against an NE10 opponent, putting them at 2-0 in the conference.

The Blue and Gold's 145 points scored through the first four games of 2019 is the most by any NE10 team.

How it Happened
The Setters found themselves in an early 7-0 deficit after allowing Saint Anselm to put together a five-minute drive that was capped off by a two-yard touchdown run. Pace quickly answered back when senior quarterback Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) found Darius Jones (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) for a 33-yard touchdown pass.

Aiken was in the zone all day finding Adrian Rybaltowski (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township), Phyll Thomas (New London, Conn./Bridgton Academy) and Jones who hauled in two-touchdown receptions against the Hawks. Aiken finished 15-for-22 with 207 passing yards and four touchdowns. He was also Pace's leading rusher on the day with 89 yards on 13 attempts.

Jones had himself a day as the Setters' No. 1 target, posting a 6-reception, 90-yard, and two-touchdown performance. Jones ranks first in the NE10 with four receiving touchdowns on the season, and third with an average of 76.5 receiving yards per game.

Senior quarterback Brandon Simmons (Willingboro, N.J./Holy Cross Academy) joined in on the fun in the fourth quarter connecting with Ramir Tann-Davis (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Eastside) for six points through the air.

On Defense
Pace intercepted four Saint Anselm passes and brought down the quarterback three times behind the line of scrimmage. The Setters' eight interceptions on the year ranks them as the No. 1 ball-hawking defense in the conference.

The Blue and Gold had two defenders register nine tackles with junior defensive backs Harrison Moran-Fernandez (Union City, N.J./Union City) and James Day (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) consistently bringing down the ball-carrier.

Saint Anselm added two additional touchdown scores in the fourth quarter.

Next Up
The Setters hit the road next Saturday (Oct. 5) when they travel to West Haven, Conn. to take on the University of New Haven with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
