DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Despite facing a 1-0 set deficit, the Pace University volleyball team tallied a 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 26-24) triumph at Mercy College on Wednesday night.
Senior
Samantha Nidini (Houston, Texas/Clearlake) led the way for the Setters in their first victory of the season. The Texas native racked up a season-high 22 assists, while also totaling nine digs and two kills. She came up with a third-set service ace as well.
Nidini's stellar passing was spread amongst many Setters. Sophomore
Sandra Yang (Bothell, Wash./Edmonds-Woodway) recorded a team-best 11 kills in the contest, while junior
Christal Wong (Elk Grove, Calif./Cosumnes Oaks) and senior
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, Hawaii/Iolani) each registered nine putaways.
Defensively, senior
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore
Emily Cockell (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) combined for 37 digs in the win. Junior
Mackenzie Byrne (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) also starred, notching two solo blocks and an assist.
As a team, the Setters piled up a season-high nine service aces. They also put together a season-best hitting percentage (.199).
