PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sparked by a dominant first half, the Pace University football team tallied a 31-14 win over Southern Connecticut State on Friday night. The victory evens the Setters' record to 1-1 on the season.
The Setters scored the game's first 31 points on Friday en route to their second straight win over the Owls.
Pace's defense was stellar all night long, pitching a shutout in the contest until 3:44 left in the third quarter. The Owls' first six possessions consisted of five punts, and an interception.
The Setters also recovered an onside kick that led to their fourth scoring drive of the first half.
Senior quarterback
Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) engineered the Pace attack, accounting for more than 200 yards of offense and two touchdowns. He opened the night's scoring with a 32-yard strike to
Darius Jones (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) at the 9:47 mark of the first quarter.
Aiken notched his other touchdown on a one-yard run to lift the Setters to a 24-0 lead with 11:25 left in the second quarter.
The Blue and Gold's other scores also came on the ground as
Jhalen Bien-Aime (Dorchester, Mass./Bridgton Academy) and
Kashmier Jackson (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) each rumbled in for six. Bien-Aime served as the Blue and Gold's top rusher with 69 yards on 21 carries.
Defensively,
Dustin Huseinovic (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) and
Michael DiIorio (Norwalk, Conn./St. Joseph) each recorded interceptions of SCSU quarterback Matt Sanzaro.
Huseinovic was also Pace's leading tackler with seven, while freshman
Jesse-Light Eadric (Marlton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) earned the Setters' lone sack of the game.
