GARDEN CITY, N.Y. –  Beginning a stretch of six games over the next five days, the Pace University baseball team was defeated at seventh-ranked Adelphi on Tuesday, 5-2. The loss shifts the Setters' record to 27-13 this season, with a mark of 13-9 in the NE10.
A four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference maker in snapping Pace's six-game winning streak on Tuesday.
The Setters' lone offense came in the sixth inning when
Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) hammered a two-run double to score
Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) and
Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens). Barbato reached base on a walk while Jacobi was hit by pitch.
Pace's only other hit in the contest was a double off the bat of
Alex Pia (Guilford, CT/Xavier) in the first inning.
All of Adelphi's runs were unearned against Setter pitchers
Michael Roll (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic High School) and
Lorenzo Russo (East Northport, NY/Commack). Roll earned the start, tossing five innings. Russo followed with three frames out of the bullpen.
