Pace Baseball Outscores SCSU 20-1 in Doubleheader Sweep

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Allowing just one run over 18 combined innings, the Pace University baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader against Southern Connecticut State University. The 14-1 and 6-0 triumphs extend the Setters' win streak to six games, while the Blue and Gold's overall record improves to 27-12 and 13-8 against the Northeast-10 Conference.

Game One Recap: Pace 14, SCSU 1
Playing as the road team on their home turf of Finnerty Field after field conditions moved the games from SCSU, the Setters used strong starting pitching over the two contests to pick up the sweep. Thomas Ippolito (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) went eight innings deep in the opener, allowing one lone run while striking out two. Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) closed things out with a one-hit ninth.

At the plate, the Setters recorded 14 runs over 16 hits. The Blue and Gold hung a four-spot in the first inning, with Brian Bohlander's (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) three-run home run serving as the exclamation point following a Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) RBI sacrifice fly. Bohlander would go 3-for-5 in the opener with six RBIs and three runs scored.

After being held to the four runs over the first six innings, Pace blew the game open in the final three frames. After Rafael Figuereo (Fishkill, NY/John Jay East Fishkill High School) scored Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay/St. Bonaventure) with a single, Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) hit his second home run of the season to put the Setters up 7-1. In the eighth, Bohlander sent another ball over the fence, as his fifth homer of the year gave Pace an eight run advantage.

Bohlander's dominant game concluded with an RBI single in the ninth. After a pair of runs came across on an Owl error, a Figuereo RBI double and a Felix Camacho (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's High School for Boys / Westchester Community College) RBI closed out the offensive outburst with the final runs of the game.

Game Two Recap: Pace 6, SCSU 0
Alex Busby (Landing, NJ/Roxbury / County College of Morris) took the mound in the closer, tossing six scoreless innings with four punchouts to earn his third win of the season. Lorenzo Russo (East Northport, NY/Commack) then came in to slam the door, pitching three innings to nab save number three of the year.

Salmonese led the offense in the second game with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, scoring three runs. The senior is now hitting an even .400 on the season.

Salmonese first came across home in the third, as a Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) single up the middle brought home the first run of the game. Pace would extend the lead to 5-0 one inning later, beginning with a Figuereo single to score Bohlander. Joseph Curcio (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills High School) hit a triple one batter later to score the freshman shortstop, while Barbato came up again to plate another pair.

Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) brought home Pace's final run of the day with a groundout to drive home Salmonese in the sixth. Handing Russo a six-run lead to work with, the junior was nearly perfect as he allowed just one hit over his three innings of work.
