PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing in front of the Setter faithful for the last time this regular season, the No. 17 Pace University women's lacrosse team defeated Saint Anselm on Wednesday night. The 15-9 win clinches a postseason berth for Pace and moves the Blue and Gold to 10-6 on the year and 8-4 in conference play with one game remaining in the regular season.
A trio of Setters led the offense with four-point efforts.
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), who earned her second-straight NE10 Rookie of the Week honor on Tuesday, found the back of the net four times. Conway has been on fire over the past five games, scoring 19 goals in that span.
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) also had four goals in the win, her second time in four games with four tallies. Pace's top offensive efforts were rounded out by
Aleya Corretjer's (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) four-point game, as the freshman had a pair of goals and two assists.
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) scored twice, while
Amanda Dickerson (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead),
Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster), and
Emma Norton (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) each found the back of the net once. Lonegan also led the team with nine draw controls and three ground balls.
After the Hawks got on the board first, Lonegan's goal followed up by a pair of scores from Conway put Pace ahead just over five minutes into the contest, a lead they would never surrender. The Setters had responses to every Saint Anselm goal in the half, with Corretjer scoring in the final minute put Pace ahead 8-4 after 30 minutes.
Pace put the game away with a seven goal run over the first 15 minutes of the second half. The Hawks closed out the game with five straight goals to pull closer, but the 11-goal advantage was too steep for Saint Anselm to overcome.
