NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Continuing their push towards the postseason, the Pace University softball team tallied a 4-2 win at Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon. The Setters have now earned nine straight victories, standing with an overall record of 18-18 this season.
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) was once again a big part of Pace's success on Tuesday, tossing a complete game in the circle. The right-hander has now won her fifth-straight appearance, while lowering her ERA to 2.31 this season.
Over Bernet's last 26.0 innings of work, she has allowed just four runs while striking out 24 batters.
On the other side of the ball, junior
Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) provided the big hit for Pace in the second inning. With classmate
Jillian Gartner (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) on second base, Schafer hammered a two-out, two-run home run to give the Setters a 3-0 lead.
One batter earlier, Pace scored its first run courtesy of a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park).
Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) scored on the play after leading off the inning with a single.
After SCSU put two across in the third, Gartner doubled home an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Freshman
Raechelle Seil (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap High School), who led off the frame with a pinch-hit single, scored on the play.
