GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Wrapping up a stretch of nine-consecutive games against the Northeast-10 Conference, the Pace University baseball team was defeated at Adelphi on Tuesday afternoon, 5-2. The loss drops the Setters to 14-9 overall and 4-5 in the NE10.
Pitching held the upper hand early, as
Alex Busby (Landing, NJ/Roxbury / County College of Morris) and Adelphi starter Daniel Taggart combined to allow just one run through the first five innings.
The Panthers were able to get on the board in the third inning off a Thomas Colombo RBI single.
The Setters would even up the game at 1-1 in the sixth after
Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) got on base with a one-out single. The senior stole second before advancing to third on a groundout, and was then brought home on a
Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) single.
Busby would be charged for a run after leaving in the sixth, ending his day with 5.1 innings pitched and two runs allowed while striking out one.
Adelphi would plate three runs in the eighth to pull ahead 5-1. The Setters would score a run in the ninth off a
Felix Camacho (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's High School for Boys / Westchester Community College) single to score
Brian Bohlander (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland), but that would be all Pace would rally for in their final at-bats.
