PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team set a new season-high for runs scored in a game on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Molloy by a score of 15-4. The non-conference win moves the Setters to 15-9 on the season and 10-5 at home at Finnerty Field.
The Setters pieced together 18 hits, with eight of Pace's nine starters recording a hit in the win.
Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, scoring a pair of runs and driving in four.
Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) also collected a trio of hits in his six at-bats, scoring a pair of runs.
Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) hit a two-RBI triple in the first inning to cap off a three-run opening inning for the Blue and Gold.
Brian Bohlander (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) and
Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional High School) helped break the game open in the third. With Molloy getting on the board in the top half to cut the Pace lead down to 3-1, Bohlander followed up a Barbato RBI double with a two-run home run, his third long ball of the season. Two batters later, Scotto followed suit with his first collegiate homer to push Pace's lead up to 8-1.
Pace would add five more runs to their lead over the next three innings before plating two more in the eighth courtesy of singles by
Joseph Curcio (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills High School) and
Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay/St. Bonaventure).
Nick Palumbo (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills High School) drew the start on the mound for the Blue and Gold, his first of his collegiate career. The freshman went four innings, allowing a pair of runs on four hits while striking out four. After an inning of work from
John Dimartino Jr. (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell),
Nick Cona (Croton, NY/Westchester Community College) closed out the contest with four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two.
