PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A Senior Day sweep for the Pace University softball team extended the Setters' win streak to eight games on Friday afternoon. The 9-1 and 7-4 victories over Saint Rose move the Blue and Gold's record on the season to 17-18 and 8-13 against the Northeast-10 Conference.
Game One Recap: Pace 9, Saint Rose 1 (Five Innings)
It was another win by run rule in the opener for Pace, their fourth in their last five games. Tossing a third consecutive complete game,
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) was nearly untouchable in the circle. The junior allowed just one hit—an RBI double in the third—while matching her season-high with eight strikeouts. Bernet has now racked up four straight wins in her last four appearances, improving to 7-7 on the season with a 2.34 ERA.
The Setters opened the scoring in their first at-bats of the day. With two outs,
Briana Ryan (Wilmington, CA/Carson) hit a double to score
Emma Carruth (Torrance, CA/Beverly Hills).
Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) followed that up with her first-career triple before scoring off a
Jillian Gartner (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) single.
After the Golden Knights plated their lone run of the game, the Setters responded with a pair in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI doubles from Gartner and
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama). Pace would go on to hang another pair on the board one inning later.
With Bernet dealing, the Setters earned the win in the fifth with another two-spot.
Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) scored Gartner with a single to center field, while the game-winner came courtesy of an
Arielle Acosta (Union City, CA/Moreau Catholic High School) sacrifice fly that scored
Alexandra Cusumano (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea).
Game Two Recap: Pace 7, Saint Rose 4
The Setters once again got the scoring started immediately with another three-run first. With two away, Carberry once again capitalized with runners on with a single to left, scoring Acosta and
Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills). Gartner drove Carberry home in the following at-bat to give the Blue and Gold an early advantage.
Pace tacked on another run in the second to give starter
Kate Dolinski (Fort Langley, B.C./Yale Secondary) a 4-0 lead to work with. The freshman went six innings deep, allowing eight hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out four to improve to 6-6.
The Golden Knights got on the board in the third before Ryan would hit a three-run homer to left field in the fourth. The sophomore's second long ball of the season extended the Setter lead up to 7-1.
The six-run cushion would be plenty for Pace, as Dolinski and
MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) would hold Saint Rose to three runs over the final three innings to complete the sweep.
