PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Beginning an 11-game homestand, the Pace University softball team was defeated twice by the University of New Haven on Thursday afternoon.
The Setters and Chargers began the day by continuing an extra-inning contest that was postponed due to darkness at New Haven on April 3.
Starting in the ninth frame with the score tied at 3-3, the Chargers were able to tally a scoreless top half of the inning before walking off for the victory.
In the regularly scheduled contest of the day, the Chargers used a three-run home run in the second inning to fuel a 3-1 triumph.
Pace managed just five hits against New Haven's Mia Iodice, who went the complete seven innings in the circle.
The Setters' lone run came off an RBI single from junior
Emma Carruth (Torrance, CA/Beverly Hills) in the third inning.
Raechelle Seil (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap High School) raced home from second base after tallying a one-out single, and moving over on a ground out.
Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, OR/Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School),
Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) and
Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) registered the Blue and Gold's other hits against Iodice.
Besides the home run in the second, junior
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) put together a solid pitching outing for Pace. She yielded just six hits across seven innings, while allowing two earned runs.
