Pace Softball Splits Doubleheader at Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – In a non-conference doubleheader on the road, the Pace University softball team split a pair of games against Mercy College on Wednesday. The Setters rebounded from a 7-6 defeat in the opener to record a 6-3 triumph in second game of the day.

Game Two Recap – Pace 6, Mercy 3
The Setters jumped out to the early lead in the second contest of the day, tallying four runs in the top of the first inning.

The 4-0 cushion was all Pace would need as MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) allowed just three runs across six innings in the circle. Freshman Kate Dolinski (Fort Langley, B.C./Yale Secondary) capped off Garrick's victory, tossing a scoreless final inning to earn her first career save.

Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) and Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, OR/Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) each registered RBI singles in the first inning, while Pace plated their other two runs off a Mercy error.

Brown, Iverson and senior Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) all went 2-for-4 in the second contest. Carberry launched her first career home run in the seventh inning—a two-run blast that put Pace up 6-3.

Game One Recap – Mercy 7, Pace 6
The Setters battled back from a 6-2 deficit in the opener before falling in the seventh on a walk-off home run from Mercy's Jordan DiGiacinto. DiGiacinto also homered in the fourth.

After the Mavericks took a four-run lead after four, Pace climbed back with two runs in each of the fifth and six frames.

Carberry tied the game in the sixth, knocking in a pair with a single to centerfield. Carberry finished the two games 4-for-8 with five RBIs.

Classmate Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) also drove in two runs courtesy a single to right field in the fifth. Briana Ryan (Wilmington, CA/Carson) picked up Pace's other RBI of the first game with a double in the gap in the third inning. Ryan also scored a run, and walked.

Brown scored three times in the first game of the day, finishing the doubleheader with a team-high five runs scored.

Up Next
The Setters will begin a string of 11 straight home games tomorrow afternoon against New Haven. Pace and the Chargers will resume their game from April 3 (9th inning) at 3 p.m. before wrapping up their season series with a single contest.
