No. 9 Pace Men's Lacrosse Earns Comeback Win Over No. 20 Saint Anselm

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Trailing by as many as four goals in the second half, the ninth-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team outscored No. 20 Saint Anselm, 11-6, over the final 21 minutes of regulation to earn a 16-15 win on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Setters move to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) had a career-high nine points in the triumph, scoring four times and collecting five assists for the fourth time in five games. The senior continues to lead Pace in offense with 58 points on the season.

Wyatt Barfoot (Georgian Bluffs, Ontario/St. Mary's) had a four-point effort, including his second hat trick of the season. Bruno Surace (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) was Pace's other multi-goal scorer with a pair of tallies. Joseph Diggle (West Islip, NY/West Islip) (1 G, 2 A) and Adam Story (Middleton, MA/Masconomet Regional) (1 G, 1 A) also had multi-point efforts, while six other Setters ended the day with one point.

Freshman netminder Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) made 11 saves in the win, moving his season total to 121. Ragusa, now 9-2 in his career in net, has allowed just 7.78 goals per game while posting a .608 save percentage.

Bryce Clark (Rumson, NJ/Rums Fair-Haven Regional) helped generate many of Pace's offensive chances, winning 20 of 33 draws while collecting a career-high 12 ground balls. The junior also added a goal to his stat line, the first of his career.

With Pace ahead 2-1 after the first quarter, Saint Anselm went on a 6-1 run in the second to go ahead 6-3. The Setters would score two straight courtesy of Barfoot and Surace, but a Sean Tomaszewski goal in the final 60 seconds of the half gave the Hawks an 8-5 advantage at the break.

It would be Tomaszewski once again who opened up the scoring in the third quarter to put Saint Anselm up by four, the only scoring of the opening nine minutes of the half.

The Setter offense would begin firing on all cylinders at the six-minute mark, as Diggle, Adam Story (Middleton, MA/Masconomet Regional), and Matthew Simone (Seaford, NY/Seaford) would all score in a two-minute span to chop the Hawks' lead to one. Saint Anselm would score twice, separated by Barfoot's second tally, to go back ahead by two, but Keenan and Clark would score just five seconds apart as the quarter drew to an end to even the game at 11-11.

The Setters opened up the fourth quarter with four consecutive goals to pull ahead 15-11 with nine minutes remaining. The Hawks would score a pair before Barfoot netted his third goal of the game with 2:33 on the clock. The goal would prove to be the difference maker, as Saint Anselm would score twice more in the final two minutes to pull within one, but were unable to find the equalizer as time ran out for the Setter comeback win.
