EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Facing their second-straight top-ten opponent on the road, the 14
th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team earned an 11-10 triumph over No. 7 East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The victory improves the Setters' record this season to 2-1.
Trailing 10-9 with less than six minutes remaining in regulation, sophomore
Emma Rafferty's (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) back-to-back goals within a 53-second span proved to be the difference in the game. The pair of scores wrapped up a four-point game for Rafferty, who also had a first-half tally and assist on her statline.
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) and
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) joined Rafferty with four-point efforts on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore Mucci added a hat trick of her own and an assist, while Corretjer scored the fifth and sixth goals of her freshman season, to go along with a pair of helpers.
Pace held the Warriors scoreless across the final 5:01 of the contest to preserve the victory.
After finding themselves in an early 3-0 hole to open the game, the Setters rattled off three straight goals of their own to pull the game even just over 17 minutes into the half.
Emma Norton's (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) first goal of the season separated Corretjer's two tallies to erase the Warrior lead.
After Pace took a 5-4 lead off a Rafferty goal at the 6:35 mark, East Stroudsburg registered the final three tallies of the first half to take a 7-5 edge into the break.
The second half produced back-and-forth action, featuring three separate ties at 7-7, 8-8, and 9-9. Freshman
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) and senior
Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) each registered goals in the second half for the Setters.
Freshman
Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai School District) earned the win in net, making seven saves (five in the second half) in her third career start.
