Dramatic Comeback in Game One Highlights Doubleheader Split for Pace Baseball Against Assumption

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A six-run, ninth-inning walk-off victory in Game One highlighted a doubleheader split for the Pace University baseball team against Assumption College on Sunday afternoon. The Setters now sit with a record of 11-7 overall this season, including a 1-3 mark inside the NE10.

Inside the Numbers
Senior Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) reached base a team-high five times, finishing the day 2-for-7 with three walks, two RBIs, and a pair of runs scored.

Joseph Curcio (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills High School) put together a 2-for-3 effort at the plate in Game One, while Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) tallied a 3-for-4, two runs scored performance in the second contest.

John Dimartino Jr. (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) earned the win on the mound in Game One after tossing a scoreless final two innings out of the bullpen.

Game One – Pace 7, Assumption 6
Trailing 6-1 with just three outs remaining, the Setters plated six runs in the ninth inning to earn their fifth walk-off victory of the season.

Three straight walks to start the ninth sparked Pace's rally, while Felix Camacho (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's High School for Boys / Westchester Community College), Alex Pia (Guilford, CT/Xavier), Salmonese all notched RBI hits. Salmonese went on to score the game-winning run off a fielder's choice from Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional High School). The contest ended when Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) was called safe at second as Assumption attempted to turn a game-ending double play.

Assumption registered four runs in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth to take the early 6-0 lead in Game One.

Game Two – Assumption 9, Pace 6
The Greyhounds scored another four runs in the first inning of the second contest. They went on to add three more in the middle innings to jump out to a 7-0 advantage.

The Setters' offense in Game Two was supplied by a pair of three-run frames. Pia knocked in a pair with a double in the seventh while Christian Lovecchio (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) and Brian Bohlander (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) registered RBI hits in the eighth.

Bohlander's triple to centerfield to score Lovecchio and Jacobi cut the Assumption lead to 9-6.
