Pace Baseball Defeated Twice by Merrimack

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Beginning their 2019 NE10 slate, the Pace University baseball team fell twice to Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon. The two defeats move the Setters' record to 10-6 this season.

Inside the Numbers
Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) and Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) led the attack for Pace across the two contests. Barbato finished the day 3-for-7 with a walk and two runs scored, while DePreta posted a 2-for-6 effort with three RBIs.

Brian Bohlander (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) launched Pace's biggest hit of the day in the form of a two-run home run in the ninth inning of Game Two (cut the Merrimack lead to just one). Noah Clement (Voorhees, NJ/Roman Catholic High School) put together a 3-for-5 performance at the plate in Game Two.

Game One – Merrimack 5, Pace 2
After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Setters were held scoreless the rest of the way of Game One. Merrimack broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the sixth, and another insurance tally in the ninth.

Pace mustered just four hits across the final eight innings after DePreta knocked in a pair in the first.

Game Two - Merrimack 8, Pace 7
The Setters scored four runs in the ninth inning of Game Two to nearly mount an incredible comeback. Merrimack's damage was done across five scoring innings, including three insurance runs in the eighth.

Pace's 14-hit effort was highlighted by three knocks from Clement, and a two-run, ninth-inning blast from Bohlander. Nine different Setters tallied hits in the contest.
