WEEKEND PREVIEW: All Spring Teams in Action at Home

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – With spring break coming to a close for Pace University, all four of the Setters' spring athletic teams will be in action on campus this weekend. Pace's baseball and softball teams will each play a pair of doubleheaders against NE10 foes, while the lacrosse squads will also both host conference opponents.

Pace Baseball vs. Assumption College (Doubleheader | Sunday, Noon | Live Stats | Video

The Setters enter their first NE10 action of the year with a record of 10-4. Most recently, Pace lost two-of-three in a mid-week series at Virginia State.

The Setters' early-season success has been fueled by terrific starting pitching. Pace's Thomas Ippolito (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), Greg Najar (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township), Dan Wirchansky (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland/RCC), and Lorenzo Russo (East Northport, NY/Commack) are a combined 6-0 with an ERA of 1.24 (58 innings). Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac), meanwhile, has tossed eight scoreless innings in four appearances.

On the other side of the ball, the Setter duo of Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) and Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) have been red hot to start 2019. Salmonese is Pace's leading hitter in almost every category, including batting average (.491), slugging percentage (.667) and runs scored (14). Jacobi is the Setters' leader in on-base percentage (.545) and RBIs (10), while batting. 457 this season.

Merrimack begins the weekend with a mark of 6-8 (started 1-5), while Assumption holds a 10-6 record (started 6-0).

Pace Softball vs. Stonehill College (Doubleheader) | Saturday, Noon | Live Stats | Video

The Setters sit at 3-3 this season following a doubleheader sweep of Queens College on Wednesday afternoon. Pace's other triumph this week came in a doubleheader split at Wilmington University last Sunday.

Junior Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) sparked Pace's two wins at Queens by tossing a five-inning no-hitter in the Setters' 10-0 Game One victory. Bernet struck out nearly half of the batters she faced en route to picking up her first victory of the season. Freshman Kate Dolinski (Fort Langley, B.C./Yale Secondary) has also pitched well across three outings this week, sitting at 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in a team-high 18.1 innings.

Offensively, Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, OR/Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) has been a run-producing machine. In just 14 at-bats, the freshman has totaled 10 RBIs. She also leads Pace with a .500 batting average, to go along with launching the Setters' lone home run this season.

Bentley begins the weekend with a record of 4-11 (3-3 over their last six games), while Stonehill kicks off conference play with a mark of 3-7 (snapped a six-game losing streak last time out).

No. 6 Men's Lacrosse vs. Saint Michael's College |Saturday, Noon | Live Stats | Video
The 5-0 Setters, who have defeated their opponents by an average of 7.4 goals, moved up to No. 6 in the USILA National Coaches Poll on Monday. Pace's five straight triumphs to begin the season marks their best start since 1999.

Freshman Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) was named the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday following a 17-save effort over the weekend. In a 5-0 start to his collegiate career, he currently leads the nation in save percentage (.697) while ranking second in goals-against average (5.92). Ragusa has made double-digit stops in four of Pace's five contests.

In addition to top-notch goalkeeping, a balanced attack has paved the way for Pace this season. Four different Setters have recorded at least 15 points so far, led by a team-best 22 from senior Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai). Keenan's 15 goals are tied for a team-high with graduate student Connor Vercruysse (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown).

Saint Michael's is 3-2 through five contests this season, including 0-1 versus the NE10. Most recently, the Purple Knights were defeated by a score of 12-9 at No. 17 Lynn.

No. 12 Pace Women's Lacrosse vs. No. 1 Le Moyne College | Sunday, Noon | Live Stats | Video
The Blue and Gold (3-3) have been busy during spring break, having already played two road games during the mid-week. Pace has put together a 1-1 stretch, winning at SCSU (19-8) before falling to No. 4 West Chester (20-4).

In similar fashion to the Pace men, the women's squad has put together a versatile attack this season. The Setters have five different players who have tallied at least six goals this season, and four with double-figure point totals.

Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) leads the Blue and Gold in points (15), while her and Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) have each found the back of the net nine times. Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) ranks second on the team with eight tallies.

The top-ranked and defending NCAA National Champion, Dolphins, are undefeated this season at 6-0 (2-0, NE10). Le Moyne has been dominant to begin the year, defeating teams by an average of 9.7 goals per contest.
