BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Hitting the road for the first time this season, the 12
th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team picked up a 10-7 win over No. 6 LIU Post on Saturday afternoon. The victory improves the Setters' record to 2-0 this season.
Down 2-0 with less than five minutes off the clock in the first quarter, the Setters rattled off a 6-0 stretch to seize control of the game. Senior
Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai), who had a team-high four points, found the back of the net twice during the six-goal run.
A tally from sophomore
Bruno Surace (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) capped off Pace's hot start to give the Setters a 6-2 lead at the 9:44 mark of the second period.
LIU Post cut into the Blue and Gold's edge once prior to halftime, sending the visitors into the locker room with a 6-3 advantage.
The Setters struck first in the second half as
Joseph Diggle (West Islip, NY/West Islip) notched his third goal of the season to put Pace back up four with 11:46 left in the third. Keenan provided the assist on the play.
Down 7-3, the Pioneers answered with two quick tallies to cut the edge in half at the 9:54 mark. The Setters responded right back courtesy of a
Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) goal with 7:41 remaining in the third.
The Pioneers registered another 2-0 spurt to trim Pace's lead to just 8-7 early in the fourth quarter.
The Setters would close the door from there, putting together a shutout over the final 13:41 of the game.
Senior
Connor Vercruysse (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) gave the Setters some breathing room with a goal at 5:36 of the final frame, while Keenan completed his hat trick with less than two minutes on the clock.
Freshman
Louis Ragusa (Ossining, NY/Yorktown) played the full 60 minutes in net for Pace to improve to 2-0 in his young career. The rookie Setter tallied 12 stops in the game to improve his save percentage to .640 this season.
