Ettrick, Va. – Beginning a three-game series on the road, the Pace University baseball team earned a 3-2 win over Virginia State on Tuesday afternoon. The victory puts the Setters' record at 10-2 this season.
Sophomore pitcher
Greg Najar (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township) made the most of his second start on the bump, allowing just one run across seven innings. The right-hander let up just five hits, while striking out four. Najar now stands with a 0.75 ERA in 12 frames of work this season.
Freshman
Michael Roll (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic High School) tossed the final two innings to pick up the save, getting four of the six outs via strikeouts.
Offensively, the Setters needed just six hits to muster their three runs.
Brian Bohlander's (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) solo home run in the fourth, which gave Pace a 3-1 lead, ultimately provided the final difference in the game.
Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) also came up with a big hit for the Blue and Gold in the first inning. The junior lifted Pace to a 2-0 advantage with a double to left field that scored
Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) and
Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens). Jacobi and Barbato sparked the rally—each recording two-out singles.
