PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Rounding out a four-game set against Stonehill College, the Pace University baseball team split a doubleheader with the Skyhawks on Sunday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The 1-1 day moves the Setters' record to 9-2 this season.
Game One – Pace 4, Stonehill 1
Sophomore
Thomas Ippolito (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) tossed a complete game in the opener, allowing just one run across seven innings. The left-hander, who is now 3-0 this season, scattered just three hits, walked one and struck out four.
The Setters hopped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before adding runs in the third and fourth frames.
Seniors
Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) and
Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) each went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Game One, while
Matt Bass (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) hammered an RBI triple in the first inning.
Game Two – Stonehill 5, Pace 4 (10 Innings)Â
It was a back-and-forth battle in the second contest of the day. Stonehill jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before Pace knotted the game up at 3-3 in the second.
The Skyhawks would then take a 4-3 lead in the fifth before the Setters evened up in the sixth. Tied 4-4 after seven, Stonehill scored the game-winning run off a Noah Lucier RBI double in the top half of the 10
th.
The Blue and Gold had seven hits in the Game Two---all recorded by different players.
Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens),
Noah Clement (Voorhees, NJ/Roman Catholic High School) and
Rafael Figuereo (Fishkill, NY/John Jay East Fishkill High School) registered the Setters' three RBIs.
On the mound,
Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) tossed two scoreless frames out of the bullpen while
Angus McCloskey (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) recorded a scoreless seventh.

The Setters will head south for a mid-week series against Virginia State. Pace and the Trojans are slated for three single games from March 19-21.
