Pace Baseball Outlasts Bloomfield, Walks Off in 11 Innings

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Highlighted by 11 shutout innings from their pitching staff, the Pace University baseball team earned a 1-0 win over Bloomfield College on Wednesday afternoon. The walk-off victory puts the Setters' record at 5-1 this season.

Following 21 zeros put up on the scoreboard, the Setters finally broke through in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Senior Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) led off the frame with a double to left field before an error and an intentional walk loaded the bases with no outs. Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) served as the hero for the Blue and Gold, initiating a game-winning walk.

The Setters had four pitchers combine to allow just five Bloomfield hits in the contest. Greg Najar (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township) tallied the start, and struck five across four innings of action.

Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) also notched five punch outs in the middle innings while Joe Pizzingrillo (Garden City, NY/Chaminade) and Angus McCloskey (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) finished the deal.

McCloskey, who entered the game with one out and a runner on third in the ninth, picked up his first win of the season.
