OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.  – Continuing the best start in program history, the Pace University men's basketball team posted a 68-65 win over New York Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Setters are now 9-0 this season, sitting as one of just 17 undefeated teams left in the country.
Pace's latest triumph was clinched in crunch time. Following a Christian Adams (New Haven, Conn./Hamden Hall) free throw with 1:01 left that gave the Setters a one-point edge, 66-65, Pace put together three consecutive stops to close the contest.
Adams was involved defensively as well, registering a block on a Bears' game-winning layup attempt with six seconds left.
For the seventh time this season, senior Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) led the Pace attack. The New Jersey native poured in 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field. He also finished with eight rebounds.
Adams followed Wejnert's lead by posting his first career double-double. The rookie put together 14 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Adams has now reached double figures in four of his last five outings.
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) was the Blue and Gold's final player in double figures with 10, while Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) chipped in eight points. Jacobs added a team-best five assists as well.
