No. 23 Men's Basketball Suffers First Defeat to Adelphi, 67-53

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - A few hours after being voted into the NABC's National Top-25, the 23rd-ranked Pace University men's basketball team dropped a 67-53 contest to Adelphi on Tuesday night.

The Setters' first loss of the season puts them at 3-1 in the NE10 and 9-1 overall. They are the only team in the conference with just one loss on the year.

Trailing by 23 at the halftime break, Pace nearly rallied back in the final 20 minutes. A 29-12 stretch for the Setters to open the second half cut Adelphi's lead to just six points at the 8:27 mark.

The Panthers answered with an 8-0 run of their own to put the edge back up to 15 with little less than five minutes left. Despite the final margin, Pace outscored Adelphi by nine in the second half.

Junior point guard Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) came up just shy of a double-double in the loss, leading the Setters with 15 points and nine assists. Teammate Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional) also just missed the mark as he finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Pace saw three players score in double-digits for the 10th consecutive game. Freshman Christian Adams (New Haven, Conn./Hamden Hall) added three 3-pointers and a pair of free-throws for an 11-point night. He was also one of three Setters to record two steals in the contest.

Jacobs and Ray Montilus (Union, N.J./Pope John XXII) each came up with a pair of takeaways. Montilus has registered at least one steal in each game he's played in 2019.
