ALBANY, N.Y. – Led by a career night from junior Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School), the Pace University women's basketball team earned a 78-73 overtime win over the College of Saint Rose on Wednesday night. The win is the Setters' fifth in a row, and improves their record to 7-1 this season (3-0 in the NE10).
Schetter's 28 points on the night not only led both teams, but also marked a new career high. She was especially clutch in overtime, putting in six of her buckets in the extra period.
Schetter also tallied seven rebounds and four assists to complete a well-rounded effort.
Three other Setters joined in double figures in the victory. Senior Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, N.Y./Commack) put in 17 points to continue her double-figure streak to eight games in a row.
Sophomore Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman Kendra Cooper-Smith (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./The Masters School) rounded out the Pace attack, putting in 15 and 10 points respectively. Hackett chipped in five assists as well, while Cooper-Smith came away with four steals. Â
The Setters' defense was a big part of the win on Wednesday as the team piled up season-highs in both steals (13) and forced turnovers (28). They also swatted six Saint Rose shots.
Pace led for the entirety of overtime—eventually scoring on the final four possessions to pull away with the five-point win. The Setters made five of their seven attempts from the field across the final five minutes.Â
