Men's Basketball Rolls Past College of Staten Island, 94-54

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The 23rd-ranked Pace University men's basketball team defeated College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon in commanding fashion. The 94-54 triumph marks the Setters second victory by at least 40 points this season. Pace is now 10-2 and holds the best overall record amongst NE10 teams.
 
Freshman Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) led Pace in scoring for the first time in his young career. The forward tallied 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals. He shot 62.5 percent from the field and added a three-pointer.
 
Senior guard Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) registered a season-high 20 points as well, while junior point guard Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) recorded his third double-double of 2019 with 15 points and 12 assists.
 
The Blue and Gold had five players reach double figures in scoring on Saturday. In addition to Powell, Cohen, Jr. and Jacobs, Martin Mann (Wakefield, R.I./Lawrence Academy) (11) and Austin Gilbertson (Etters, Pa./Trinity) (10) hit the mark. Gilbertson also chipped in seven assists.
 
Defensively, the Setters racked up 13 steals on the afternoon. Senior guard Ray Montilus (Union, N.J./Pope John XXII) led the efforts with four, registering his sixth game with at least four takeaways.
 
Pace also piled up a season-high in assists with 31 on 38 made field goals. Nine different Setters recorded at least one helper in the contest.
 
Three different members of the Blue and Gold tallied their first points of the season in Saturday's victory. Kyle Maurer (Emerson, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) and Luca Naughton (New Hope, Pa./Solebury Prep School) each knocked down a field goal while Jordan Fox (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) sunk a three-pointer for his first points of the season.
 
Up Next: Coach Matt Healing's squad will have a week off before returning to action next Saturday, squaring off with Southern New Hampshire University in the Goldstein Fitness Center. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
