Volleyball Tallies Dominant Sweep of Assumption

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Pace University volleyball team kicked off Homecoming Weekend with a clean, 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-14) sweep of Assumption College on Friday night.

Three Setters each tallied nine kills on the night while freshman Brielle Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) added eight more. Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, Hawaii/Iolani), Sandra Yang (Bothell, Wash./Edmonds-Woodway), Mackenzie Byrne (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Jones combined for a total of 35 kills over just three sets.

Pace also had four players rack up service aces for a team total of 12. Yang led the way with four while teammates Emily Cockell (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) and Samantha Nidini (Houston, Texas/Clearlake) registered three apiece. Calimpong-Burke added a pair of her own as well.

On the passing side of things, Nidini and Nicole Pivetti (Modena, Italy/Liceo Wiligelmo) racked up a combined 34 assists, while Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) picked up a team-high 12 digs.

How it Happened
The Setters held Assumption to just 40 points, their fewest allowed over three sets in 2019.

Pace went on runs of 10 and seven in the first set en route to their largest margin of victory in a single set this season.

In the second set, Yang's three straight service aces followed by a Jones kill ultimately sealed the win to put the Setters up 2-0.

In the third set, Cockell led a seven-point run at the serving position followed by a five-point run a few points later led by Calimpong-Burke to complete the first 3-0 sweep of 2019.

Next Up
The Setters return to action on Nov. 1 when they travel to North Easton, Mass to take on Stonehill College at 7 p.m.
