Monteleone Eclipses 1,000 Career Points in Women's Basketball's Win Over Molloy

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Highlighted by senior Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) scoring her 1,000th-career point, the Pace University women's basketball team put together a 58-49 win over Molloy College on Friday afternoon. The victory, which is the Setters' first of 2019, featured a crowd of more than 250 fourth and fifth graders as part of Pace's "Court to the Classroom" Day.

Monteleone, who finished the game with a team-high 17 points, becomes just the 27th player in program history to record more than 1,000 points in a career. She is the first Setter to reach the 1K milestone since Margo Hackett did so in 2015.

Monteleone's eclipsing basket came in a big third quarter for Pace. After heading into halftime with a tie score (26-26), the Setters put together a 21-7 stretch in the third frame. Monteleone went on a personal 9-0 run to enhance Pace's advantage to 42-33, while five straight points from Brianna Wong (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) provided the Setters with a 47-33 lead.

Molloy responded in the fourth quarter with a 13-3 stretch of its own to cut the edge to just 50-46 with 2:37 left on the clock. Four points would be as close as the Lions would get, however, as a quick 4-0 spurt from Pace grew the lead back to eight with less than 90 seconds on the clock.

In addition to Monteleone, the Setters' offense had three other players reach double figures in the win. Sophomore Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) registered her second-straight double-double (13 pts, 10 rebs), while freshmen Brianna Wong (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and Lauren Hackett (Commack, NY/St. Anthony's) combined for 22 points.

Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) tied a career-best with 13 rebounds in the game, while also leading the Setters with four assists.

As a team, Pace dished out 15 assists on 19 made baskets. The Blue and Gold also forced 20 Molloy turnovers.
