Women's Basketball Stages Frantic Comeback, Falls Late to Saint Michael's

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Despite cutting an 18-point, fourth-quarter deficit to just two with 42 seconds left, the Pace University women's basketball team was defeated by Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon by a score of 61-55.

Inside the Numbers
*Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) posted her fifth double-double of the season, recording 14 points and 13 rebounds—both of which were team-highs on Saturday.

*DelliSanti did a little bit of everything for the Setters, adding five assists, three steals and a block to her stat line.

*Lauren Hackett (Commack, NY/St. Anthony's) also reached double figures with 10 points, while dishing out a team-high six assists.

*The Setters recorded 10 steals on Saturday, marking their sixth game this season with double-figure take-aways. Brianna Wong (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) registered half of those steals as she continues to lead Pace in that category.

How it Happened
The Setters trailed 53-35 with 4:49 to play in the game before rattling off a 20-4 run to cut the lead to just two points with under a minute remaining. Pace's frantic comeback was sparked by a combined five three-pointers from Kelsey Quain (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and Hackett in a span of just 2:52.

The Purple Knights responded to Quain's final long ball with an old-fashioned three-point play on their next possession to stretch the lead back to five with 24 seconds left. The Setters were unable to answer on the other end, and Saint Michael's came away with the six-point win.

Saint Michael's held a five-point edge at halftime before stretching it to 10 by the end of the third quarter. A quick 9-2 run in the beginning of the final frame produced their largest lead at 53-35.

Up Next
The Setters will be back home on Tuesday night, hosting Stonehill College at 5:30 p.m.
